October 20, 2006, SANTA FE—Governor Bill Richardson today announced that 3:10 to Yuma, a remake of the classic 1957 film, will shoot entirely in New Mexico. Based in Santa Fe, the Tree Line Film and Relativity Media production, starring Russell Crowe (Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind, Gladiator) and Christian Bale (Batman Begins, The New World, Laurel Canyon) expects to hire more than 400 New Mexicans. Relativity Media is fully financing the film and handling foreign sales.

The film will be shot in and around Santa Fe, Abiquiu and Galisteo from October 23 through January 20, 2007. James Mangold (Walk the Line, Kate & Leopold, Girl Interrupted) is directing with Cathy Konrad (Walk the Line, Girl Interrupted, Scream 2 & 3) producing. Ryan Kavanaugh (RV, Gridiron Gang, All the King’s Men, Talladega Nights, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift), Lynwood Spinks (Cutthroat Island, Cliffhanger, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) and Stuart Besser (The Breakup, The Sweetest Thing, 40 Days and 40 Nights) are executive producing.

Set in 1870, 3:10 to Yuma tells the story of Dan Evans (Christian Bale) who, on the verge of losing his land to drought, his wife to discontent, and his eldest son to bitterness over the desolate ranching conditions in the rural west, takes the job of getting the region’s worst outlaw, Ben Wade (Russell Crowe), to a distant town and on board the 3:10 train to Yuma Prison. In mortal danger throughout the journey as Wade’s notorious gang attacks at every turn, Dan finds in a psychological struggle with the outlaw, with desperately needed money and the soul of his eldest son hanging in the balance.

“This is a tremendous cast for a tremendous movie,” said Governor Richardson. “Westerns have always been a huge part of New Mexico’s film industry and we are proud to continue that tradition with 3:10 to Yuma.”
Since Richardson took office, over 50 feature films and television series have shot in the state, generating over $725 million dollars in activity to New Mexico’s economy.
