Governor Bill Richardson Announces The Book of Eli to Shoot in New Mexico
Contact: New Mexico Film OfficeSANTA FE—Governor Bill Richardson today announced that the Warner Bros/Alcon Entertainment production The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman, will shoot in New Mexico.
The action thriller will film in and around Alamogordo, Carrizozo, Santa Fe and Albuquerque from February through May 2009. The production plans to hire approximately 250 local crew members. The Book of Eli takes place in the not-too-distant future, across the wasteland of what once was America. A lone warrior, Eli (Washington), must fight to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption. Producers include Joel Silver, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Denzel Washington. Albert and Allen Hughes will direct. Silver Pictures is co-producing along with Alcon. Warner Bros will handle domestic distribution, with Summit Entertainment handling foreign sales. Since Governor Richardson took office, more than 110 major feature films and television series have shot in the state, adding over $2 billion dollars to New Mexico’s economy.
