With venues hosted by the new Allen Theatres Cineport 10, NMSU, and Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, the expansion into a larger market will enable the festival to retain its commitment to bring high quality festival programming while intensifying arts education in the region. The festival once more promises to attract numerous visitors from around the world with its enigmatic films, informative panels and special events.
About WSIFF: The White Sands International Film Festival (WSIFF) began in Alamogordo, NM after a group of art industry supporters felt that it would benefit southern New Mexico to have more of a film presence in its region, and by building the arts through film within the south, it would thusly aid and build the film industry in New Mexico as a whole. WSIFF brings the artistic insight of eminent filmmakers to New Mexico in order to heighten audiences’ appreciation for the art of cinema. WSIFF screens outstanding short and feature length documentaries and narratives of all genres from around the world. WSIFF also has a special focus on Latino and New Mexican filmmakers and other filmmakers who choose the scenic backdrop of New Mexico for its locations. Some noted past guests include the legendary Mexican filmmaker Arturo Ripstein; director of the award winning “Bella”, Alejandro Monteverde; and actor Wes Studi of “Last of the Mohicans”.
