Contact: New Mexico Film Office (505) 476-5600SANTA FE – Governor Bill Richardson today announced that due to the overwhelming response to today’s initial orientation, the New Mexico Film Office will be offering another orientation for its “Retrain and Sustain” film crew training program. The orientation will take place Wednesday, April 8, in Santa Fe.
The Governor announced the new program earlier this week designed to retrain displaced workers for jobs in New Mexico’s film industry. The New Mexico Film Office is partnering with the Department of Workforce Solutions to locate New Mexicans with transferable skills, preparing them for employment in the film industry through intensive skill and safety training. The program will offer training for unemployed experienced carpenters, painters, sheet metal fabricators, welders and landscapers. The orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th from 10am-noon at The Lodge at Santa Fe. The session will be presented by the New Mexico Film Office and IATSE Local 480. THOSE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING MUST RSVP. Transferable Skills for the Film Industry: “Retrain and Sustain” A free seminar presented by the New Mexico Film Office FOR: Experienced Carpenters, Painters, Welders, Sheet Metal Fabricators, and Landscapers OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the orientation is to provide information about how experienced carpenters, painters, sheet metal fabricators, welders and landscapers can transition their skills into job opportunities in the New Mexico film industry. The New Mexico Film Office and IATSE Local 480 will give an overview of the industry, followed by four film crew professionals explaining their crafts and how they relate to those specific skills. Future training seminars dedicated to individual crafts (carpentry, painting, welding, sheet metal fabricating, landscaping) which will involve more specified training, are currently being organized, and participants of Wednesday’s orientation will have the opportunity to sign up for those.
