SANTA FE, June 24, 2009 -“Transformers- Revenge of the Fallen”, released by Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks Pictures, opened worldwide today to large crowds and big excitement. The movie was filmed in part in New Mexico.

“We’re very excited that another major motion picture shot partly in New Mexico using local crew and resources is apparently going to be a huge success,” said Lisa Strout, Director of the New Mexico Film Office. “It reflects very well on the state, our large, talented workforce, and the local businesses that support the industry. In particular, the Otero County Film Office and the Alamogordo community embraced this project.”

Fandango.com reported that
“Transformers” sold out 2,000 shows when it opened at 12:01 a.m. today, and initial overall box office results are strong.

In New Mexico the film shot at various locations including Mescalero, Tularosa, White Sands Missile Range, and Holloman Air Force Base. The movie required 181 days of prep work in New Mexico from May to September of 2008, with principal shooting here running 23 days in September and October of 2008. The production hired 133 New Mexican crew members to work on the film during shooting.

While shooting in the state producers of “Transformers-Revenge of the Fallen” took advantage of New Mexico’s 25% film production tax rebate program.

“Transformers-Revenge of the Fallen” is the sequel to 2007’s “Transformers”, also shot in part in New Mexico, which earned an estimated $700 million in global box office.

Since 2003, 125 major film or television productions have taken place in New Mexico. Those productions have generated an estimated $2.1 billion in economic impact in the state.
