Created in 1962 (incorporated, 1981) Rio Rancho sits on a mesa overlooking the Rio Grande Valley, the Sandia Mountains, the city of Albuquerque, and surrounding mountain ranges. Called the "Silicon Valley" of the Southwest, Rio Rancho has its share of high tech manufacturers like, Intel, Letrosonics, and Xynatech. Rio Rancho is also home to four major call centers (JC Penney, Bank of America, Sprint PCS, Victoria's Secret).
