About: Vaya con Huevos is a proof-of-concept short film for a feature-length script. It is a regionally inspired dramedy exploring themes of intercultural relationships, addiction, and the revolving door of incarceration. The proof-of-concept will be a stand-alone short that will be submitted to the festival circuit, in hopes of creating the feature-length down the road.
The romantic chemistry between the male and female leads is the most important element of the film, and so a chemistry read will be central to casting.
The leads:
Annie Laredo: A 20-something white girl from South Texas who winds up in Santa Fe County Jail while on tour with her punk band. The band left town without her, and now she's stuck in New Mexico with 15 bucks in her wallet and no idea what to do next. She's plucky and clever but reckless.
Antonio Beltran (Toni): A Norteño (late 20s/early 30s), who happened to be released from jail the same day as Annie. Beneath his swagger and history of petty crime is an awkward sweetheart who's prone to say whatever's on his mind. He's scrappy, loyal, and smitten with Annie from the moment they meet.
Information: This is a no budget film. I am a film student in my 30s.
