April 22 marked Earth Day and filmmaker Doug Fine’s latest film, “American Hemp Farmer,” dives into his life on his farm in southern New Mexico.
The film follows Fine after a wildfire nearly turns his family — and goats — into refugees on their remote New Mexico ranch. Fine set out to discover food security and wildfire mitigation around the world via hemp and other crops.
The film recently had its PBS premiere, and more than 40 markets have picked up the film. The film can be streamed on the PBS app.
The film took home the award for Best New Mexico Feature Documentary at the 2024 Santa Fe Film Festival.
