'Coyote vs. Acme' in theaters on Aug. 28
It's been years in the making and finally "Coyote vs. Acme" will get a theatrical release beginning Aug. 28.
Many New Mexicans worked on the project only to see it shelved by Warner Bros. and now distributed by Ketchup Entertainment.
New Mexico resident Steven Ray Byrd didn't give up hope as he began using his social media platform as a way of helping get the movie into theaters. He also has a role in the film where he plays a lawyer.
"With Coyote vs. Acme,' I had lost my son about five months before and my son was a John Cena fan," Byrd says. "My mom was also big John Cena fan, and I had lost her years before and I was, you know, struggling obviously. I saw
this thing that a 'Coyote vs. Acme' was filming and they already
did auditions. I was like, 'Well I got to get on that.' I submitted for the film after auditions and was cast in the film."
Filming in New Mexico was significant for him, as it involved many local crew members and friends.
"That fight (to get the film released) was for New Mexico. This is something filmed in New Mexico, and we want to celebrate our victories here and that needs to be seen," Byrd said.
