Emmy-winning series ‘Bands of Enchantment’ to employ 80, returns to KiMo Theatre for sixth season
SANTA FE — “Bands of Enchantment” is back for a sixth season of filming in New Mexico.
“Bands of Enchantment” is an Emmy Award-winning series filmed in New Mexico. The series puts a spotlight on musicians — both international and local — while showcasing locations around Albuquerque.
This season, filming will take place at the KiMo Theatre in Downtown Albuquerque. The series showcases not only the downtown area, but locations around Albuquerque as the musicians featured put on an acoustic performance.
The production will employ 51 New Mexico crewmembers and 29 New Mexico principal actors.
The series is directed by Vincent Chavez and produced by Ken Peterson.
“‘Bands of Enchantment’ is a postcard from NM to the world,” said Peterson. “With each season, we’ve always wanted to go bigger. The goal for the series was always to showcase New Mexico. We not only film the artists at the KiMo [Theatre], but we take them out to a location in Albuquerque to record some acoustic sessions.”
The production is filming through Saturday, Sept. 19, in and around Albuquerque. The musical lineup for the current season features New Orleans funk legends Galactic, jazz-inflected hip-hop pioneers Digable Planets and Grammy-winning Delta blues guitarist and songwriter Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. Local talent is also on the roster with Turquoise Steel, Metamorfos, Tropa Magica and Clarq.
“Season six of ‘Bands of Enchantment’ showcases their full expression of the original BOE dream to have a street festival,” said Cyndy McCrossen, Albuquerque Film Office liaison. “They’ve grown each year bringing outside bands in and showcasing local bands on the same national platform. We as a city cannot be more excited to host them once again. Everybody come to Downtown Albuquerque this week. So many bands to enjoy at the KiMo Theatre through Saturday.”
The series has won an Emmy Award and streams on PBS, TUBI, ROKU Channel and Prime Video.
