The New Mexico Film Office has launched a new actor reel designed to showcase New Mexico talent and increase visibility with casting professionals, producers, and other industry decision-makers in and outside the state.
The idea for the CAST NEW MEXICO reel was brainstormed by the two casting directors — Jo Edna Boldin CSA and Jennifer Schwalenberg CSA — who are members of the Governor’s Council of Film and Media Industries. The idea was presented to the New Mexico Film Office, which agreed to support and back the project.
“CAST NEW MEXICO, an actor sizzle reel, was created to encourage directors and producers to look at New Mexico actors early in the casting process for major roles instead of automatically bringing in actors for those roles from Los Angeles,” said Boldin. “It also encourages the hiring of New Mexico casting directors familiar with local actors.”
“We are fortunate that Wes Studi agreed to open the reel showcasing clips of a select few of our best NM actors,” Boldin added.
The film office is working with local casting directors, talent agents and other industry partners to help share the reel with contacts outside New Mexico and expand its reach.
“We spend a lot of time promoting New Mexico’s locations, crews and production resources, and our talent is an important part of that story,” said New Mexico Film Office Director Steve Graham. “This gives us another tool to put New Mexico actors in front of the people making casting and production decisions.”
