​​​“Ransom Canyon” returns to New Mexico to film its second season

Continued film partnership with Netflix employs more than 700 local cast and crew.

Netflix’s "Ransom Canyon" has returned to the Land of Enchantment to begin filming its second season.

The second season of “Ransom Canyon” will employ more than 700 New Mexicans, including 380 crew members, 40 principal actors, and 300 background talent. The large-scale production reinforces New Mexico’s reputation as a leading destination for film and television, capable of supporting multi-season series and sustained studio partnerships.

Though set in the Texas Hill Country, the contemporary Western saga will once again film extensively across New Mexico's diverse landscapes, including Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, Nambé, Santa Ana, and Santa Domingo through January.

The series continues its tale of love, loss, and loyalty beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. Three ranching family dynasties are locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies threatened by outside forces that seek to destroy their way of life.

"The return of 'Ransom Canyon' for its second season is a powerful statement about our state's production capabilities," stated Steve Graham, New Mexico Film Office director. "Netflix's continued partnership proves that our combination of a skilled workforce, diverse locations, and a strong partnership makes New Mexico an ideal home for long-term series production. We're proud to have them back."

Season 2 reunites stars Josh Duhamel (“Transformers”) and Minka Kelly (“Euphoria”), both of whom grew up in Albuquerque. Kelly has spoken warmly about returning to her home state to film, bringing a powerful local connection to the production. Also returning are Lizzie Greene (“A Million Little Things”), Jack Schumacher (“Top Gun: Maverick”), and Garrett Wareing (“Manifest”). The series is directed by Melanie Mayron and Mo McRae, with April Blair serving as writer, creator, and executive producer.
