Documentary Shines a Spotlight on New Mexico's Fierce Indie Film Community
SANTA FE - While New Mexico is known for a plethora of productions, a documentary is pulling back the curtain on the state's vibrant, resourceful, and fiercely independent filmmaking scene. “Dust Don’t Settle,” a documentary, begun principal photography in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, focusing on the unique methods and collaborative spirit driving grassroots cinema here.
Directed by David Jennings and produced by Alonso Indacochea, Tina Timelord, Jeanette Aguilar-Harris, and Chelsea Ambrose, the documentary aims to showcase the creative drive of local artists who are forging remarkable films without the resources of major studios. The production is currently focusing its lens on the film collective Dust Wave and the broader network of independent creators, showcasing the crucial facilities and locations that support them.
The filmmakers are actively profiling key locations such as Studio 519 in Albuquerque, animator Dusty Deen, the Guild Cinema, and the New Mexico School for the Arts in Santa Fe, highlighting the depth of the local scene while collaborating with the New Mexico Film Foundation on sponsorship.
"We really want to highlight the closeness of the community, the supportiveness of New Mexican artists to their fellow creatives, the drive to keep creating and not settle for the status quo, and, in a wider sense, the artistic spirit that exists here," stated the production team.
"This documentary is a powerful reminder that New Mexico's film industry is far more than just soundstages and tax credits; it’s built on a foundation of passionate, resilient local artists," Steve Graham, director of the New Mexico Film Office, said. "This project honors the incredible ingenuity of our indie filmmakers and the supportive network that helps them succeed. We are proud to support a film that champions the future of independent cinema right here in the Land of Enchantment."
The documentary is scheduled to be filmed through December and is committed to supporting the local creative workforce, employing 15 New Mexicans for its crew.
