Action-packed thriller "Coppers" wraps filming in Socorro
Feature film powered by a blend of acclaimed and local talent
The feature film “Coppers,” filmed entirely in New Mexico and featuring some widely recognized local talent, wrapped shooting in July.
“Coppers,” a high-stakes, modern-day western, found its unique voice in the heart of New Mexico, thanks to a talented cast and creative team deeply rooted in the state.
The production employed approximately thirty New Mexico crew members, eighteen New Mexico principal actors, and twenty-five background talent, generating a significant economic impact for the region.
"Coppers" was directed by Dameon Clark (“Dragonball Z”) and co-directed by Jim Burleson (“Dead Man's Hand”), who both produced the film. It stars Sean Patrick Flanery (“Boondock Saints”), Academy Award® winning actor Eric Roberts, Noel G (“Fast and the Furious”), and local talent Steven Michael Quezada (“Breaking Bad”), Julian Cavett (“Wanted Man”), and Ava Del Cielo (“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot”).
The story follows two Albuquerque police officers who stumble upon a cartel accountant's stolen millions and a desperate plea to save his kidnapped family. The discovery thrusts them into a deadly cross-border standoff involving cartel killers, American mobsters, and corrupt officials — all converging on a ghost town hiding a cache of chemical weapons. As the body count rises and loyalties blur, the officers must outwit ruthless adversaries and survive a night of betrayal and violence to rescue the hostages, prevent a catastrophe, and make it home alive.
“New Mexico is the perfect backdrop for a modern-day southwest action caper,” Burleson stated. “Film Noir amidst the tumbleweeds and windstorms of spring in New Mexico is a character all its own.”
"This production required a deeply talented crew and cast, which our state’s film professionals delivered,” said Steve Graham, director of the New Mexico Film Office. “The significant number of New Mexico residents, including our local principal actors, who contributed to this project is a powerful testament to our vibrant talent base."
