Feature film ‘Coyote,’ starring Mel Gibson wraps filming in Albuquerque
More than 400 New Mexicans employed across crew and cast
SANTA FE - The feature film “Coyote” starring Mel Gibson, has wrapped production in and around Albuquerque, employing more than 400 New Mexicans across crew, principal cast, and background roles.
Directed by Per Prinz and produced by Scott Smith and Hamid Torabpour of FireTiger Studios, the film completed principal photography in October, bringing large-scale production activity to the region and supporting local businesses.
The production also features New Mexico actor Nyomei Valentina Lara (“Pulse”), highlighting the depth of talent working within the state’s film industry.
“We’ve been building this film for years, and for us it could not be more personal,” Smith said. “It’s an international story about immigration, brought to life with a focus on authenticity and the lived experiences of the people at its center.”
“This production employed more than 400 New Mexicans, reflecting the strength and skill of our local workforce,” said Steve Graham, director of the New Mexico Film Office. “Projects like ‘Coyote’ continue to drive job creation and demonstrate why New Mexico remains a top destination for film and television production.”
“Coyote” joins a growing number of productions filming across New Mexico, reflecting continued demand for the state’s experienced workforce, diverse locations, and expanding production infrastructure.
