New Mexico Film Office Announces Feature Film “The Smashing Machine” Wrapped Filming in New Mexico
Santa Fe, N.M. - The New Mexico Film Office announced today that the feature film “The Smashing Machine” was filmed in and around Albuquerque in July.
The production employed over 150 New Mexicans, including 180 crew members, 2 principal actors, and 79 background talent.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson (“Jumanji: The Next Level”) and Academy Award® nominee Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”). Caught in a brutal world, it follows a legendary MMA fighter, Mark Kerr, as he grapples with fame, addiction, love, and loyalty at the zenith of his UFC career in 2000.
Benny Safdie (“The Curse”) wrote, directed, and produced under the Out for the Count banner along with Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, Eli Bush, and David Koplan. A24 is financing the project.
New Mexico's film industry continues to surge, shattering the $1 billion mark in total economic impact for 2024. Total economic impact includes direct production spending within the state, wages earned by cast and crew members, and indirect spending on hotels, restaurants, and countless other New Mexico businesses that support and benefit from the film industry.
