New Mexico Film Office Announces the Feature Film “Night of the Starlings” is Currently in Production in New Mexico
Santa Fe, NM - New Mexico Film Office Director Amber Dodson announced today that the feature film, “Night of the Starlings,” will be filming in and around Madrid, NM, through July.
“Night of the Starlings'' is a gothic ghost film inspired by actual events with elements of the La Llorona myth. The story takes place in 1973 and is about a 13-year-old girl, "Rae," who, despite her own hardships, struggles to save an abandoned teenage mother and her baby. The tri-lingual story stays true to New Mexico's cultural mix of Hispanic, Native American, and Caucasian cultures. The film stars Lauren Marshall (“The Courage to Hope”), Aubrey Trujillo (“Coyote Cage”), Mikie Beatty (“NCIS”), Sophia Meneses Ortega, and will be directed by Betsy Burke (“Teardrop”). It is produced by Rokitpig Entertainment (Jerry G. Angelo) in association with Outskirts 66 Films (Burke) and KeyVision Productions (Fritz Eberle).
"We are so excited to go into production for a fully local film; local story, locations, cast, and crew,” Burke said. “The story brings the popular myth of La Llorona to life in the character of an abandoned teenage mother, based on actual events that occurred in Madrid, NM, where it is to be shot.”
The production will employ approximately 25 New Mexico crew members, 10 New Mexico principal actors, and 30 New Mexico background talent. This film is being made in collaboration with Santa Fe Community College and will employ a mix of both professionals and students.
