Psychological thriller wraps filming in Las Cruces

Feature starring Josh Lucas and Alyssa Milano showcases Las Cruces’ growing film industry

LAS CRUCES — The feature film, “The Night Driver,” wrapped in September in Las Cruces, completing its shoot across Southern New Mexico.

The psychological thriller stars Josh Lucas (“Ford vs. Ferrari”) and Alyssa Milano (“Charmed”), marking another successful collaboration between returning producer Andre Relis and New Mexico’s skilled film community.

“Las Cruces is drawing high-caliber films,” said New Mexico Film Office Director Steve Graham. “Every project that chooses to film here is a testament to the city's readiness to support major productions and is a win for the local economy.”

“The Night Driver” is a chilling throwback to the suspense films of the '90s, set in a time before cell phones and GPS. The story follows Hurdis, a traveling salesman whose cross-country trip home turns into a terrifying ordeal after a run-in with a psychotic killer. As his journey unfolds, he discovers he is being relentlessly stalked and framed for a series of murders, forcing him into a desperate fight for survival.

Jeremy Weiss makes his directorial debut with producers Andre Relis (“Wander”), Jib Polhemus (“Coyotes”) and Jessica Russo (“Darkness of Man”). Sean Cunningham, the creative force behind the seminal horror franchise “Friday the 13th,” serves as executive producer along with Rene Besson, Matthew Helderman, Grady Craig, Luke Taylor, Daniel Pike, Kevin Glynn, BJ Hendricks and James Rundquist.

"We're excited to have ‘The Night Driver’ filmed in Las Cruces, especially with how much they utilized the local cast and crew,” said Las Cruces Film Liaison Andrew Jara. “It goes to show the talented workforce that the film industry has in Las Cruces and Dona Ana County."

The production hired 45 New Mexicans, including 40 crew members and 5 principal actors, and utilized the distinct landscapes of Southern New Mexico to bring its retro-thriller vision to life.

“This was my third time filming in New Mexico and my second time in Las Cruces,” Relis said. “New Mexico offers exceptional crew, stunning locations and I’ve always had a great experience filming here.”
