Independent film, ‘Crime Novella,’ wraps production in Albuquerque
SANTA FE — The feature film, “Crime Novella,” recently wrapped in Albuquerque after nearly a month in production.
The film is directed by Omar de Soto and produced by Paul Bennett IV, and stars Jeff Wahlberg and Percy Hynes White.
The film follows Cash + Valentine, who can’t keep their hands off each other. The pair is caught in a tug of war between jealousy and deceit; they leave their lives in the
rearview mirror and embark on a fiery road trip to Las Vegas to redeem their love. As their violent tendencies catch up with them and the law hot on their trail, the question
becomes: will their passion be their demise?
“ ‘Crime Novella’ is my love letter to toxic relationships. Not to fix them or moralize, but to tell the romantic truths buried inside the mess,” said de Soto. "We’ve all lived through different forms of trauma. These two just found each other inside it. Trauma
bonded, eye for an eye, heart for a heart, clinging tighter as the world outside grows more paranoid and less safe. Built on shootouts, bad decisions and an us-against-the-world mentality, this cheeky romance treats violence as love misfiring under pressure.
The chaos isn’t random. It’s shared. I hope audiences get a good laugh at themselves along the way, because we have all been here. Some people were lucky enough to experience it. Others were smart enough to avoid it. These kinds of relationships
taught me everything about what I want in love.”
The film employed 45 New Mexico crew members, 10 New Mexico principal actors and approximately 50 New Mexico background actors.
