The independent feature film, “The Hive,” wrapped production in and around Santa Fe, employing more than 120 New Mexicans across crew, principal cast and background talent roles.
Set in Santa Fe, “The Hive” explores the intersection of the Old West and the modern world as a centuries-old, multicultural community navigates political and ecological uncertainty. The story follows a town that, like a beehive, must work collectively to endure and adapt.
Written and directed by Santa Fean Susan Winter (“Pousse Café”) and produced by Jane Charles (“Rescued by Ruby”) and David Skinner (“Smoke Signals”), “The Hive” stars Dana Wheeler-Nicholson (“Blue Miracle”) and Elizabeth Rodriguez (“Orange Is the New Black”). The production also features New Mexico talent, including Andersen Kee (“Dark Winds”), underscoring the state’s independent film community.
"We feel incredibly supported by the local industry,” Charles stated. "Jennifer Schwallenberg brought together some of the best actors that we have ever seen."
"The success of 'The Hive' is a fantastic testament to the strength and quality of New Mexico's independent filmmaking community," said Director of the New Mexico Film Office Steve Graham, . "When a production chooses Santa Fe, hires over 120 locals, and praises our talent base, it solidifies our reputation not just as a location, but as a genuine home for compelling, authentic storytelling."
The project adds to New Mexico’s growing slate of independent productions and reflects continued opportunities for local filmmakers, crew and creative professionals.
