Martial Arts Action Film 'Counter Strike' Employs Over 60 Local Crew Members

Las Cruces landscape plays pivotal role in high-stakes thriller starring Michael Jai White and Glenn Morshower

SANTA FE - The action-packed feature film, “Counter Strike,” recently wrapped principal photography in Las Cruces.

The production features an elite ensemble cast including Michael Jai White (“Spawn” “The Dark Knight”), Lou Ferrigno Jr. (“S.W.A.T.”), with Jeri Ryan (“Star Trek”) and Glenn Morshower (“Transformers”). Also starring New Mexico’s own Cowboy Cerrone (“Prisoner of War”) and former Army special forces operator and first-time actor Abdiel “Rico” Reyes.

The film is directed by Jeffrey Giles and Michael Lurie and is produced by S.C.V. Taylor.

“Counter Strike” follows an elite Tier-1 military squad on a high-risk hostage rescue mission. When the team is suddenly ambushed, the operation turns into a desperate fight for survival as they must battle their way out of hostile territory.

The production provided a significant boost to the Southern New Mexico economy, and hired over 60 New Mexicans for crew, principal, and background roles. By filming in Las Cruces, the project highlights the diverse range of locations available in the southern part of the state, from urban centers to remote desert vistas.

“Filming ‘Counter Strike’ in Las Cruces is a massive opportunity for us to tap into the incredible energy of this city,” said Taylor. “We were also very excited to have several local veterans from the Operation Sound Stage program on our crew. They provided critical expertise and energy to the production, a very productive partnership that we hope to repeat in the future.”

“The film incentives were established for productions to hit every corner of the state,” said Steve Graham, New Mexico Film Office director. “‘Counter Strike’ not only utilized the Rural Uplift incentive but also put New Mexico veterans to work through Operation Soundstage. This foundation is what keeps New Mexico a leader in the industry."
